I am taking part in the Microsoft Kilometres for Kids Challenge this February!

As part of my new year’s resolution to get and stay fit in 2022, I’ve set myself a personal challenge to complete some Kilometres for Kids! This is also a chance for me to raise much-needed funds to support children’s charities through the Chain Reaction Challenge Foundation.

The complications of the past few years have meant many charities struggled to raise enough funds to continue their programs, upgrade necessary facilities or purchase life-saving equipment. Chain Reaction ensures that they maximise every dollar raised so that their charity partners can continue the good work that they do.

Help encourage me to push through to reach my fitness and fundraising goals with a donation to this cause. The good habits I set here I plan to continue in 2022 and I want to leave behind a positive impact for myself and for kids in need.

Final Tally

To everyone who provided sponsorship and support throughout the February 28 Day Kilometres for Kids challenge, please accept my heartfelt appreciation.

I was able to raise $3,629, by cycling 1,720kms, walking 324kms and swimming 4kms for a total distance of 2,048, a very ominous number for a tech geek!

I know the charities will be forever thankful for your generous contribution.

I do apologies for not posting this earlier as I live along the Brisbane River and have been flooded out with no power since the 27th of February with limited power and utilities only recently been restored.

I have not cycled outside since the 26th of February due to the recent flooding in Brisbane, where my apartment complex flooded, with over 5M litres of flood water in the sub-basement. I was part of the crisis management team who took on the responsibility to recommission the apartment complex to a state where it was again habitable as most of the residents evacuated upon losing power. My family and I chose to stay onsite to assist in the major clean-up work we knew would follow.

On Friday the 19th of February we were able to finalise the removal of over 5M litres of flood water, recommissioning of the ventilation systems, Carbon Monoxide Monitors and partial elevator access to both buildings that make up our complex and the removal of over 300m3 of flood debris, not including nine (9) written off cars.

The heartening thing to see is how our community has pulled together as one to stand up to this challenging weather. Well done #WatersEdgeRiverfront you all are the true champions.

Day 28

Finished my effort for Kilometres for Kids.

It has finally stopped training although there is still wide scale flooding everywhere.

I went for an early ride and walk this morning as I had to check the flood levels at outlet apartment block. Then I completed a lunch time ride and cooled off with a swim.

If time and weather permits I will go for another ride this evening.

I want to thank all of the kind sponsors who have supported and encouraged me throughout this event.

Day 27

Team today has been difficult.  I was only able to  complete 14.75kms running on a treadmill, due to heavy flooding in Brisbane.

Please help me reach $3,500 you can get your Australian tax free donation support me at https://lnkd.in/gwG2eRth.

Tomorrow I hope to exceed my 2,000kms commitment, I have logged approximately 1,945kms all up, please give me the strength to complete my goal.

Thank you.

Day 26

Another very wet day in paradise!

Today’s ride was 82kms. It has been raining very hard for several days so I used our apartment complex’s standing bike and treadmill to achieve todays Kms.  Outside our apartment block is the bike path, in the photos you will see how flooded it is.

I really hope that the rain stops soon but it looks like it will be stormy until the mid of next week so it looks like all of my remaining target kilometres will need to be completed indoors.

You can support this deserving cause and cheer out for me here should you wish to donate, every dollar counts: https://lnkd.in/gwG2eRth please help me reach my new goal of $3,500 within the next 2 days.

My total swimming, walking and cycling kms currently stands at 1,918kms in 26 days

Day 14

Today it has been raining all through my ride, so I chose to cycle on the Jim Sorely bike path, once it became too dark to ride I completed about 40kms on the Criterium Circuit, a 1.3km loop.

Day 12

Today I completed a couple of laps of the Botanical Gardens and the extended Brisbane River Loop with a second bridge to bridge leg.

It was very windy today , 21kms, as a head wind, I really dislike riding into the wind.  It also started to rain quite heavily, I am typically a scary cat when it rains but I was about thirty KMs from home, I had to be very careful on the down hill segments as the roads were quite slippery.

Today’s ride was 76kms.

Lisa and I completed a slightly longer walk this morning where we completed 15kms.

My walking and cycling kms total currently stands at 815kms.

Day #6

Day 6 of #GregKCforKids, Sunday 6th February, I completed a Springwood ride with a 1/2 River Loop completing 61kms.

I have also been completing a daily walking session with my fantastic and supporting girls, Lisa KC and my daughter Issy, where, as a family we have walked a total of 47kms this week.

Walking and cycling total KMs: 357kms

To date I have been fortunate to raise AU$365, with a big thank you to #MuraliKurra, #AndrewBeer and #Anonymous who have graciously sponsored this worthy cause.

Day 5

Thank you Bunnings I was able to fix Black Beauty today another 56kms to the tally.

Day 4

I had planned to do a 'Strava Gran Fondo' which is 100KMs today, however after 62KMs my saddle actually fell off!

It turned out that the lock nut that bind the saddle rails to the seat post failed and I had to ride 15kms with no saddle until after three bike shops I was able to jerry rig a temporary solution so I could complete the ride!

So only a total of 82kms today and I can not get the proper replacement parts until next Tuesday, so I will have temporary retire my Look 795 Aerolight Proteam ‘Black Beauty’ until she is fixed and complete my next few rides using my heavier Trek FX4 Carbon ‘Blue Bomber’.

Fortunately being true to my engineering nature I do have a ‘Disaster Recovery Plan’. ?

Day 3

Completed the river loop today, but behind my target KM's as it rained heavily yesterday, however I am commited to go for another ride tonight weather permitting.
